Vietnam | Mango Bay, a dreamy jungle retreat steps away from the beach
t’s 8.30pm and turns out the kids are miraculously sleeping. I am sitting with a flashlight on the terrace of a wood cabin nestled in the Vietnamese jungle, steps away from the beach. With a couple of hours of quiet ahead of me, it idecided to write an post about the gorgeous hotel we just arrived to.
Away from it all
We are on the island of Phu quoc, located off the West coast of Vietnam. It is quite a touristic spot, loved by locals who want to escape the city life of the mainland. The Mango Bay resort is my absolute favorite hotel on this island as it combines authenticity, nature, simplicity and total comfort.
Open-air shower
Let’s start with the main attraction of this stay: the rooms, spread out in private villas, made with natural materials: wood, palm leaves, rattan. Each cabin gives you a feel of still being outside when you are tucked in your bed. The roof is not sealed, the bathroom is outside and there is no glass on the windows, just wood shutter. The family huts offer a room under the roof you can access with a small staircase, making you feel like you are climbing into a in a tree house. My girls aged 6 and 8 years old absolutely loved it.
Play pirates
On top of cool rooms, the Mango Bay is a perfect spot to get some rest on the beach while the kids day dream of pirate tales. There are three, all kept pretty wild and super fun to explore. The biggest beach also offers sand toys, water sports, volley ball, and a delicious restaurant.
Getting there
Fly to Phu Quoc Island, several domestic and international flights (including Bangkok) or take a ferry from Ha Tien on the West coast of Vietnam.
