USA | 10 reasons to take the kids to Amish country

We are just coming back from a weekend in Amish territories, with our four kids. We all loved it, and this is why :

1.Easy location, only 2.5h from either New York or Washington DC. Make it a weekend gateway from one of those two big cities, or add this stop to an East coast roadtrip.

2.Discover farm life, staying on a working Amish farm with a host family. I have met the most wonderful hosts, with kids of the same ages of mine. If you would like me to organize a stay with them, contact me for booking.

3.Learn how to make your own butter and bread (workshop only available during autumn).

4.Take a buggy ride with an Amish woman who will answer all the questions you have.

5. Discover home cooked Amish food at Miller’s smorgasbord, bird-in-hand restaurant or plain & fancy restaurant.

6. Shop for fresh products at Bird-in-hand incredible farmers market.

7. Try riding an Amish scooter, get lost in a corn maze and have fun on a farm themed all wood play ground at the Amish Farm and house.

8. Treat the kids at Dutch Wonderland, a retro amusement park.

9. Attend an Amish country fair and discover the amzing local products (food, clothes, furniture), and why not get one for yourself.

10. Shop for vintage clothes and trinkets at the Moodish Lancaster and nearby stores.
