Thailand | My top 10 in Chiang Mai with kids

Welcome to…

the coolest city in Thailand!

Did you know Chiang Mai is the coolest town in Thailand right now? Digital nomads are flocking there to enjoy the slow pace of life, cool eateries and shops. Turns out it is also an amazing place for families. Here are my top ten things to do with kids in and around town:

BaanKang Wat. A collective of artists selling their creations in the cutest little shop stands, craft family workshops, amazing eateries and great outdoor space for kids.

KaoMai Lanna Resort. The. Most. Incredible. Stay. In town. An old tobacco drying factory turned into a boutique hotel. A gorgeous mix of industrial, minimal and modern vibes. The hotel is built on a large property featuring huge trees, fields, and old buildings to explore.

Baka Nok. An adorable bookshop selling international titles

Wat Umong. The most beautiful religious site of Chiang Mai. Look for the hidden Buddahs in the walls of a maze carved out in a little mountain.

Elephants.

Getting close to elephants in Thailand is a sensitive topic as everybody has different feelings on how they want to approach them. I have selected respectful places that I like and feel comfortable with, offering different level of closeness with the animal. For a stay amongst elephants, walks, bath and feedings of animal, I love Chai Lai Orchid, eco lodge and cafe. An even more more ethical choice might be a place where no touching of the animals is allowed such as: Kindred Spirit elephant sanctuary, Mahouts elephants, Bees elephant. Last but not least, the Poopoo paper park is also a super fun way to interact with elephant in an indirect way as you will learn to make recycled paper from elephant poop! Really unique and special pace not to miss.

Ginger Farm. One of those dreamy places Thailand is good for. A working farm turned coffee shop, workshop and play space. A must !

Weekend evening old town Market. From 5pm on the old town of Chiang Mai becomes car free, and hundreds of street vendors fill the streets with locally made products of all types. Lots of street food, music, and shows.

Triplet Café. Halfway between a restaurant and a playground, this is the perfect spot for a recharging lunch for all. Kids will love playing on the wood plays structures in the garden, while you will get some minutes of peace, seating down.

Arch 39. The kid friendliest hotel in town, offering rooms turned into playgrounds with climbing structures, slides and hanging nets. Very beautifully made, in wood. Love this place!

Bo Sang Umbrella village. Chiang Mai is known for its paper umbrellas, and this little village workshop will show you how it’s made from scratch. Fun for kids to look out although it is quite touristic.
