"A great place to have a taste of France with delicious croissant and "pain au chocolat." | Stéphanie Ross, Co-Founder Les Petit Carreaux

"I like this place because there is a lot of room and they have big communal tables. It makes it easy to meet up with friends and their kids. And pastries are delicious!" | Chloé Fleury, Illustrator and Prop Stylist

Pascal Rigo, the founder of La Boulangerie, loves fresh bread and was deeply missing it in San Francisco. The story even says that one morning his daughters showed no interest in a basket of fresh pastries he offered them for breakfast and asked for bread instead… He took on his family's craving and opened a French style bakery which quickly gained American customers' heart.

At La Boulangerie, you will find French classics you can see in other places like plain, almond and chocolate croissants, éclairs, macarons, fruit tarts… But also some regional french specialities that have not yet reached other bakeries' shelves such as "Tarte Tropezienne." Originally from Saint Tropez, a chic coastal town in the South of France, this delicious pastry is made of an egg and butter brioche topped with pearl sugar, cut in half and filled with vanilla pastry cream.

All the frenchies living in SF or visiting in January will also be delighted to know that every year, the bakery chain even brings to San Francisco the traditional "Galette Des Rois." This puff pastry tart filled with a thick almond paste is eaten to celebrate the holiday of epiphany, when the three kings visited Baby Jesus.
