KAYAKING ON THE INLE LAKE IN BURMA
By Capucine Graby, journalist and founder of Travel Store Mymoonspots. The Inle lake. Soaked with ancient, yet still alive traditions, this place triggers dreams in travelers' mind. Its extraordinary dimensions, 13.5 miles long and 7 miles wide are simply mind blowing. In the spring time, the hyacinthes blossom to cover almost the entire surface of the lake. This place is absolutely unique, intriguing and captivating.Local people are called the Inthas and live in houses on stilts. Most of them are fishermen. During the day, kids go to school by boat and people take care of their floating vegetable patch. They move around on dugout canoes and paddle with a leg.Kayaking is the perfect way to discover the harmonious way of life around the lake. It enables you to chat with the inhabitants, exchange a smile, glance at the giggling kids heading back home after school... Thanks to the kayak, I really felt engaged during our trip. On top of that, it was refreshing, and my son loved it ! Our guide even became a friend and took out his fishing rope to try to catch a fresh fish for us!
