ATSUYO YANG, CO-FOUNDER ATELIER ATSUYO ET AKIKO, IN BROOKLYN
Written by Charlotte Burgoyne.
Brooklyn has been the home of Akiko Mukae and Atsuyo Yang since 2007, the year when the two friends decided to combine their skills - screen-printing and design for Akiko, fabrics and the fashion industry for Atsuyo - and to open their own atelier here. They started with accessories and quickly came up with a very distinctive touch. Today Atelier Atsuyo et Akiko has become a key player in the New York kids' fashion industry and their flagship store in Brooklyn is a Must-go.
Atsuyo used to live in Tribeca before she and her husband decided to move to Dumbo in Brooklyn. It was an easy decision for them to make as they used to go out to Brooklyn very often. This is where they've been living and raising their two girls since then.
HER BROOKLYN
Eating out with her daughters. Hometown Bar-B-Que in Red Hook– It is big and noisy already! It is also self-service which is very convenient with the kids. I love that the experience is so very Brooklyn style.
Ganso is also good for brunch or dinner with kids. They have a sushi area and also an izakaya area. Nice noodle soup and some sushi rolls keep the kids happy!
Grabbing a snack with her daughters. Brooklyn Farmacy & Soda Fountain. It is an old school pharmacy ice-cream place. A lot of fun to discover.
