JILL ROTHSTEIN, STYLIST, IN BROOKLYN

All in black and panther prints, Jill Rothstein immediately caught our attention when she entered Buttermilk Bakeshop in Brooklyn where we had agreed to meet. There was no doubt she was the mama we were waiting for. After all, it is not that surprising the queen of children's styling has an awesome personal style. Looking at Jill's portfolio, you would think she's always been a stylist but she only got started after her second kid. In her child-free life she worked as an assistant teacher in a nursery school and with kids with special needs.

Originally from New Jersey, Jill has always dreamed of living in the city. She realized this dream and moved to Brooklyn after having her first kid. "We checked out what was happening on the other side of the Brooklyn Bridge and we knew right away that Brooklyn was the place for us! We settled in Park Slope and couldn't be happier. I love the people as they are so creative."

IN BROOKLYN WITH JILL ROTHSTEIN

Eating out with the kids. We love Hugo & Sons for dinner. Super cute restaurant with an excellent menu for the adults and a perfect kids' menu as well. Dizzy's is great for brunch. Huge menu for parents and kids alike and they have live music for the kids on the weekends!  For a more casual dinner, we love Peppino's on 5th Ave. The pizza is amazing and, if you want to eat at home, you can pick up pre-made pizza dough and cook it at home with the kids!

Grabbing a snack with the kids. Buttermilk Bakeshop is heaven on earth! They have incredible baked goods like cute cupcakes and delicious Nutella and sea-salt cookies. Yum!

Shopping for the kids. Lou for girls (2-10 years) is such a cute shop in Park Slope. Great brands and I love the cute accessories. Sweet William in Williamsburg carries brands that I always recommend to parents looking for super cool pieces like Bobo Choses and Nico Nico.

An outdoor activity with the kids. Prospect Park is magical! We are there at least a few times a week. My son has organized soccer games there but sometimes we just go on a nature walk or to watch the sunset with a fistful of ice cream. In the summer, Celebrate Brooklyn hosts a series of live music events in the Bandshell. Lots of the concerts are free and you can bring the kids along! (Or leave them at home for a parents' night out.)

An indoor activity with the kids. Puppet Works is a theater that hosts incredible puppet shows. We just took our kids to see Alice in Wonderland and they loved it! The Painted Pot is a great place to take the kids where they can pick out their own piece of pottery and paint it. Definitely a favorite place to go on a rainy day.
