IN CAPE TOWN WITH LISA HARRISON
Eating out with the kids. The Chardonnay Deli in Klein Constantia is our go-to spot as a family. Freshly baked cakes and coffee, organic and free-range ingredients delight my heart. They have a wonderful outdoor area great for sunny days. There you feel like you’re in the middle of a forest while you watch the squirrels and birds play in the trees.
Little Stream is a very simple little restaurant, also based in Klein Constantia on a gigantic property amongst very old trees. This place is incredibly lush and green, and very kid-friendly! You can bring a picnic or enjoy a light meal, buffet or just tea and cakes.
Hometown Café is thoughtfully designed: parents can sit back and relax while their kids play.
A pretty shop for kids. Cape Town is officially home to some of the most wonderful little shops that support local kid fashion and accessories. I do tend to sway towards these specific stores, because I understand the need to support fellow locals. One shop in particular that I do love so very much is the Kids Emporium at Constantia Village. They are very choosy with the brands that they support and sell in their store
Having fun with the kids on a sunny day. We love to take Olly surfing. We go down to Muizenberg Beach and he can spend over an hour paddling and riding the waves on the longboard with both his Daddy and myself.
Having fun with the kids on a rainy day. The Kids Shack is amazing! It is a warehouse that has been transformed into kids heaven! Jungle gyms, an inside motorbike track painted onto the floor, indoor putt putt and a gigantic jungle gym. There is also an under 3 kids area that has been closed off to keep them safe, and of course, there’s a little area for the mommies to meet and to enjoy coffee or a toasted sandwich while the kids play. Super affordable and a safe play area that you can relax at while your kids let loose.
A cultural activity with the kids. Olly is only 2, I find it a little bit young to really take in any cultural activities. But, we look forward to taking him up to Table Mountain, and having him explore some of the many cultural activities Cape Town has to offer!
A kid-friendly hotel in Cape Town. Tarragona Bed and Breakfast. Never have been there myself, but heard so much from parents. Located in Hout Bay, there is so much for them to do just a stone throw away. The B&B has a huge pool and many kid-friendly activities outside in the garden.
How do you keep up to date with the latest kids' activities in Cape Town? I am active on many of the local mommy groups on Facebook. I am also a religious follower of many mommy blogs, and one of them is the Becoming You blog.
