CHō CHō, the butterfly which cozily wraps baby
[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text](By Charlotte Burgoyne)
There is a new way to dress up your baby when the temperatures drop. It is not a jacket, not a snowsuit, not a blanket but rather a mix of all these. Its name? CHō CHō - butterfly in Japanese. We've met the two moms behind this amazing new invention - Kristin Rehberg, a design director with decades of experience at Gap kids, Baby Gap and Oshkosh and Christina Ruhaak, a RISD-trained textile designer who worked a lot with artisans in Nepal. They tell us all about their new baby.
What is a CHō CHō?
It is a butterfly-shaped baby wrap. It is a wonderfully versatile shape. It opens and shuts its wings on the baby's upper body while his legs are in a pants-shaped sack. It is a perfect way to keep little ones warm, cozy and safe. Our CHō CHō is available in cashmere from Nepal and in polar fleece, made in the USA.
Why CHō CHō?
Kristin. When my first son was born he was really tiny and I wanted to make sure he was completely covered. I was constantly adjusting his blanket in the stroller. I thought there has to be a better way. When you move around a lot you want something that does not get in the way.
Christina. I grew up traveling and I traveled all the time with my children. I had always been wondering what is it that a parent really needs today? There are a lot of products on the market. When you live in a city you are not really concerned about putting your kid in and out of a car seat but where we live - in Madison, Wisconsin - we use the car a lot and it is important to have something easy to put on your baby. It did not exist until our CHō CHō came to life.
Why is it great for traveling?
It is perfectly ideal for airplane, car, stroller....basically anytime you go in and out of different climates. With our CHō CHō you won't need to adjust baby's clothing constantly. If you go from a cold to a warm place you will just have to open up the butterfly wrap and vice versa if you go from a warm to a cold place. It comes in handy when your little one is sleeping and you don't want to wake him up to put a jacket on or take it off him.
