A BUGGY RIDE IN THE BRAZILIAN DUNES

By Capucine Graby. The city of Sao Luis was named after Louis XIII, the governor at the time. San Luis is in the heart of the Nordeste, a magical region in the northern part of Brazil where the sun shines all year long, and the scenery consists of coconut trees and sand dunes which are shaped by the wind.Between Sao Luis and Fortaleza, lie two amazing spots, the famous Lençois Maranhenses and Jericoacoara. Lençois means sheet. Here, like nowhere else in the world, the wavy dunes resemble wrinkly sheets. It is, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful places in the world. I love the miles of white dunes, separated during the winter (our summer) water ponds.  These sandy mounts are an ideal playground for kids who will love sliding down into the tiny water pools.A few hundred kilometers away, Jericoacoara is a gorgeous kitesurfing spot where we have a nice rest. In Jeri, the locals meet up every night on the highest dune of the village to enjoy the sunset. A very special moment where everybody gets together: Brazilians, tourists, party animals, sportspersons. The other main attraction in Jeri is renting a buggy, a small convertible car for two, and exploring the kilometers of dunes and beaches. Kids usually sit on their parents' laps and it's a great time for all to feel as free as ever.
