ON THE ROADS OF NAMIBIA

Sophie Pirlot from Poesy By Sophie, and our long time Contributor in South Africa is once again enchanting us with her African adventures. This time she takes us to Namibia with her three daughters Aliénor 10, Colombine 8 and Aprilia, 3 years old.

"Namibia is a gorgeous and vast country... Endless roads in the middle of deserted scenes, a breathtaking nature, lots of dust and red soil... the African roadtrip of your dreams! We are five in a 4x4 equipped with two tents on the roof. Our adventure can start. In almost two weeks, we visit the high lands of Waterberg, we search for the "Big 5" (elephant, rhino, buffalo, lion and leopard) in the mythical Etosha park; we meet San people in their tribal village nestled in the au Erongo mountains, we witnessed the Namib desert dropping in the Atlantic Ocean at Sandwich Harbor and play in the orange sand dunes of Sossusvlei. The truly incredible thing in Namibia is its diversity: safari, desert, mountain, the Atlantic Ocean! We literally feel like visiting several countries at once. With three kids, we've found that mixing sleeping in our tents and spending some nights in hotels was perfect. Our girls loved camping under the stars, it was a magical family experience. There are also some amazing lodges in this country, see below our favorites."Where to stay:

  • Mushara Bush Camp: very beautiful lodge, uber kid-friendly, and well located at the entrance of Etosha Park.
  • Erongo Wilderness Lodge: luxury tents in the middle of a spectacular scenery.
  • Spitzkoppe campsite: our favorite by far, the site is so big that you have no chance to spot a neighbor. It's pretty much like camping in the wild, and depending where you set up you might see amazing sunsets.
