LIVING AND TRAVELING IN THAILAND WITH KIDS

(By Marie-Pacifique Blanckaert)

Fueled by the discovery of new cultures, new peoples and new places, Caroline et Thomas have always loved traveling.

When their daughter, Maïa, was born, 9 years ago, they didn't stopped doing what they like most. On the contrary! They decided to take her and to head to South-East Asia. They visited the authentic Laos; they discovered the magnificent temples of Angkok in Cambodia; they sailed throughout the unique Along Bay. They were so much amazed by Thailand that they ultimately decided to stay and live there.

After 6 years living and traveling all around, Asia has no longer any secret for them and Thailand has become their Home sweet home.

Their recent blog - We Kids Travel - recollects all their adventures, their favorite addresses and their tips in South-East Asia. It's a must-go for families planning holidays there!

What brought you to Thailand?

We decided to settle in Thailand because we fell in love with its landscapes, its culture, its people and its atmosphere. Phuket was the most convenient place where to stay also because it hosts an international school.

How is it to live with kids in Thailand?

Easy! You can find everything you need for your child. Our daughter often tells us she feels free and happy here. Medial cares are very good. There are several activities to do with kids: see elephants and  monkeys living in total freedom; immerge into the country's rich and diverse culture; visit magnificent temples and feel the zen atmosphere which exudes from them, zigzag in tuk-tuk throughout the city...

Is Thailand really kid-friendly?

Absolutely! For Thai people, children bring you luck. They are considered as sacred. They like having fun with the little ones, give them a gift, play with them.

What would you say to parents who worry about taking their kids to Thailand?

No hesitation! Thailand is ideal for a family trip, it's such a cool country. You may be annoyed by mosquitos but that's it. Amenities are amazing while offering an unbeatable value for money. You can find dreamy beaches and breathtaking seabeds. No need to be a dive expert to meet clown fish or parrot fish.

Is there an ideal age to take the kids to Thailand?

No. Of course, trekking with a baby into the tropical jungle is maybe not the best thing to do. But otherwise, you can travel and find baby needs everywhere.

What place would you recommend for a first trip to Thailand?

We are absolute fans of the Krabi region in southern Thailand. This is where the landscapes are most impressive. There are plenty of activities inland and by the sea. This is our favorite area!

Have you visited others parts of South East Asia?

Yes. Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam. We enjoy each of these countries. We like the rustic and authentic Laos, the magnificent temples of Angkor in Cambodia or the beautiful Halong Bay, but it's not easy to talk about these three countries in a few lines! For a first trip to Asia with children, Thailand is our top 1 destination.

Caroline, Thomas and Maïa's ❤️ spots in Thailand:

Where to sleep:

Bangkok: The Praya Palazzo is a fantastic hotel where time seems to stand still. The Lamphu Tree House offers lovely rooms and a great pool!

Ayutthaya: We love the Baan Thai House. Beautiful Thai decoration; Adorable owners; Children more than welcome!

Koh Samui: The Maenam Hills Sami features superb villas.

Where to eat:

Bangkok: The Jim Thompson House's restaurant is great. Magnificient setting and excellent food. It's also worth experiencing diner in Chinatown: it's super easy to find very good food for almost nothing.

Chiang Mai: In its authentic night market where you can taste delicious dishes.

Anyway, the Thai food, whether it's street food or in restaurants, is delicious everywhere!
